Joe Dickinson

Experienced running back coach Joe Dickinson begins his first season coaching at Tulane.

Dickinson, 42, came to New Orleans after the second of his two stints at Oklahoma. He began his college coaching career in Norman as a graduate assistant from 1983-85. He moved on to Tulsa, where he spent four seasons (1986-89) coaching the Golden Hurricane running backs.

Dickinson was named Marshall's offensive coordinator in 1990, where he served with Tulane's Chris Scelfo.

After one season at Marshall, Dickinson took over as offensive coordinator/quarterback coach at Northern Illinois, a post he held for five seasons (1991-95).

He returned to Oklahoma in 1996 as running back coach and took over as the Sooner offensive coordinator in 1998.

A three-year letterwinner as a quarterback at East Central University in Ada, Okla., Dickinson began his coaching career in the prep ranks. He worked as an assistant for three seasons at Tecumseh (Okla.) High School (1978-80) and for two years at Edmond (Okla.) High School (1981-82). In 1983, Dickinson was head coach at Davis (Okla.) High School.

A native of Purcell, Okla., Dickinson has two daughters, Joni and Lauren. His fiance is Teresa Hagler.
