Joined the Green Wave as a walk-on in the spring of 2002 and earned a scholarship by the end of fall camp and has developed into a superb safety for Tulane.
2003: Made seven starts at safety while playing in nine games despite battling injuries. Ranked fifth on the team with 80 tackles, 56 solo. Also tied for the team lead with four forced fumbles (0.44 per game led Conference USA). Tallied four double-figure tackle games, including three games with 14 stops. Had 14 tackles, including a career-best 12 solo and one tackle for loss, against East Carolina (11/22). Also had 14 stops against Houston (10/11) and Louisville (10/17). Forced three fumbles against Mississippi State (9/13) while adding seven tackles, three solo. In the win over Army (9/20), had six tackles, a pass break-up and a fumble recovery which he returned 48 yards for his first career touchdown.
2002: Played in 12 games, including starts in the first two games at free safety. Made 45 tackles (25 solo), including a season-high nine against both Houston (9/7) and Memphis (9/21). Recorded six tackles, including his first career sack against Southern (8/31). Forced a fumble against Memphis and recovered one against Houston. Added pass break-ups against UL-Monroe (10/5) and Army (11/16). Did not play against Navy due to injury.
2001: Attended Tulane on an academic scholarship.
High School: Played just one year of football at H.L. Bougeois High School, of which he is a 2000 graduate. Earned valedictorian honors and was his class president for three years.
Personal: Born January 20, 1982 in Houma, La. The son of Frederick and Susan Dawson. Older brother JaJuan, who holds Tulane's record for career touchdown receptions (31), has signed with the New York Giants and is preparing for his fifth year in the NFL. A double major in accounting and finance.
