Noted by Coach Scelfo as one of the top special teams gunners in the country and then developed into a potent big-play receiver as a junior.
2005: Earned Third Team All-Conference USA honors in his first season of action at receiver. Started all 11 games and led Tulane with 47 catches and 720 receiving yards, as well as six touchdowns. Ten of his catches went for 20-plus yards, including four of 40 yards or longer. Had four 90-plus yard receiving days following a four-catch 90-yard game against Rice (11/12), including a 68-yard TD catch. Had a three-catch, 97-yard effort against UCF (10/21). Snagged five balls for 93 yards and a pair of TDs against UTEP (10/14). Led the Wave with six catches for 52 yards and his first career touchdown against Houston (10/8). In his first action at receiver in the opener against Mississippi State (9/17), tallied nine catches for 117 yards, including a 27-yard reception from punter Chris Beckman on a fake punt. Added five receptions for 58 yards against Southeastern La. (10/1). As a special teams gunner, had nine tackles. Posted five solo tackles and a forced fumble against Marshall (10/29). Added three takedowns and another forced fumble in the Tulsa game (11/19). Registered one rushing attempt, gaining five yards against Rice (11/12).
2004: Played in 10 games, primarily on special teams, but did start at tight end against Navy (11/6). Recorded four tackles in special teams action.
2003: Played in all 12 games, registering 11 tackles (eight solo). Saw the majority of his time on special teams, but also played on the defensive line due to injuries against Memphis (10/25). Recorded a career-best three tackles in the win over Army (9/20). Forced a fumble and had a pair of solo takedowns against Northwestern State (9/6).
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned second team All-South Jersey honors as a senior. Caught 27 passes for 484 yards with five touchdowns, giving him a 17.9 yard-per-catch average. Also played linebacker and totalled 75 tackles, nine sacks, seven forced fumbles and three interceptions in 2002. In his junior season, he caught 35 passes for 500 yards and two touchdowns on offense while recording 60 tackles, 10 sacks and two interceptions at outside linebacker. Lettered three years at Woodrow Wilson.
PERSONAL: Full name is Preston Saeed Brown. Born August 2, 1985, in Camden, N.J. The son of Hope and Darrell Brown. Has four older brothers and one younger sister. Majoring in paralegal studies at Tulane. A member of the National Honor Society in high school. Brother Melik is a senior linebacker at North Carolina.
