Nov. 16, 2002 D-Line Feature Story
2002 (through regular season): Tulane's all-time sack leader (with 20.5) who also broke the school record for tackles for loss versus UAB (10/19) and now has 48, 17 in 2002. Posted at least one tackle for loss in six of Tulane's last seven games and in eight of 12 games on the year. In on more plays than any other defensive lineman on the year. Made six solo tackles with a sack, two TFLs and a caused fumble in the Army (11/16) game. Established a career high with 10 tackles, six solo, and three tackles for loss versus Cincinnati (10/12). Second on the team in tackles for losses with 17 for 71 yards, while his 19 quarterback pressures led the team. Credited with 56 tackles, 35 solo, on the season and ranks tied for second in sacks with five. Made six tackles and four tackles for loss at ULM (10/5) and was credited with six tackles, five solo, versus ECU (9/14). In the Memphis game (9/21), batted down a pass and added three quarterback pressures. Broke the Tulane record for career sacks with one versus Southern (8/31) and added a pair of sacks in the Cincinnati game. Team captain who made five solo stops, broke up a pair of passes and tallied a pair of tackles for loss in the opener. In his fourth season as a starter, has 188 career tackles and passed the 100-solo tackle mark versus Cincinnati.
2001: Saw action in all 12 games, starting the final 10 games of the year at defensive end. Tallied a career-high 53 tackles (35 solo), while leading the team with eight sacks and 14 tackles for loss. Ranked fifth in Conference USA in sacks and 11th in tackles for loss. Second on the team with three forced fumbles. Logged tackles for loss in the last eight games and had all of his sacks in the final eight games. Had season-highs of eight tackles and two sacks at UAB (10/20). Notched five tackles with one sack and a pass deflection against Navy (11/10). Registered six tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble against Cincinnati (10/6). Credited with seven tackles (five solo), two for losses, and a sack against Louisville (11/3) to earn team Defensive Player of the Week honors. Also forced fumbles against BYU (8/25) and UCF (9/22).
2000: Played in all 11 games with eight starts. Recorded 39 tackles, including 25 solo takedowns. Tallied nine tackles for loss (second on the team). Also had 2.5 sacks and a pass deflection. Four times matched his season-best with five tackles. Recorded a solo sack vs. Houston (11/4), as well as half-sacks in three games. Had five tackles, including two for loss, and a pass deflection against Louisville (10/28).
1999: Started eight games and came off the bench once. Had five sacks (tied for the team lead) and eight tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Posted a career-best nine tackles vs. Army, including four solos. Hurried the quarterback seven times.
1998: Redshirted the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1998 graduate of Godby High School in Tallahassee, Fla. Had 24 tackles, five sacks and eight tackles for loss as a senior. Coached by Mark Feely.
PERSONAL: Kenan Louis Blackmon. Born May 6, 1980 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The son of Joe and Kizzie Blackmon. Majoring in media arts.
