NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's men's basketball guard Jonathan Stark swept the Conference USA weekly awards it was announced on Monday by the league office as the Munford, Tenn., native received the Player and Freshman of the Week honors.
The weekly conference honors are chosen by a media panel representing the 16 member schools.
Stark averaged 19.3 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds as Tulane posted a 2-1 record during the week with a loss to Washington followed by wins over Alabama State and Northeastern to claim the Westin Holiday Classic.
The freshman poured in a career-high 25 points in the loss to Washington on Tuesday night and followed that performance by posting 21 points to guide the Green Wave past ASU on Saturday. He then returned the next day to score all 12 of his points in the second half against Northeastern, including hitting three-of-four free throws in the final 30 seconds to help secure the 65-62 victory.
For the week, Stark was 25-of-30 at the free throw line.
This is the second C-USA Freshman of the Week honor for Stark and his first as Player of the Week as he is the first player to claim both awards since former Green Wave standout Ricky Tarrant accomplished the feat on Dec. 5, 2011.
Tulane returns to action after the holiday break on Dec. 28 when they face Kansas State in Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. The game will tip at 4 p.m. CT and be aired live on Fox Sports 1. The next home game for the Green Wave is Jan.2 when they host Hofstra at 1 p.m. CT in Devlin Fieldhouse.
