Green Wave Looks For Second Straight Victory when Alabama State Visits
Nov. 29, 2009
NEW ORLEANS - Fresh off a 76-71 victory over George Mason on Saturday, the Tulane men's basketball team looks to keeps its winning was going when they host Alabama State at 5:30 p.m. CST on Monday in Fogelman Arena. The Green Wave (2-3) got past the Patriots on Saturday in the first game of the three-game home stand. Kevin Sims led the way with 22 points, while Asim McQueen added 16 points, a game-high seven rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. Aaron Holmes also chipped in with 10 points. Alabama State (1-2) is coming off a 64-58 victory over Columbus State. The Hornets' two losses came at Belmont and Ole Miss. "Alabama State is an experienced team. They went to the NCAA Tournament last year," Tulane head coach Dave Dickerson said. "They are very aggressive and they average 17 offensive rebounds per game and for us rebounding has not been our strong point to this point so I am very concerned about that." The Hornets averaged just 53.0 points per game, but grab 39.0 rebounds per game, including 16.6 offensive boards. "Our goal going into the game is to see if we can rebound the basketball affectively," Dickerson said. "I thought we did a great job against George Mason who is a good rebounding team. We have to bring that effort and intensity against Alabama State." Tulane, which did equal the amount of rebounds as George Mason on Saturday with 33, is grabbing only 28.8 per game. This is the fourth meeting between the two programs. Tulane owns a 3-0 series lead, including a 69-60 victory in Fogelman on Dec. 28, 2007, the last meeting between the two schools. Kris Richard leads Tulane into the contest with 12.6 points per game, while Holmes is scoring 10.0 a game and David Booker is chipping in 9.6 points per outing. Sims is not far behind the top three with a 9.2 scoring average. The Green Wave shot 40.7 percent from the field this season, including 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Tulane has averaged 62.0 points per outing in the first five games of the season. Alabama State has shot just 31.0 percent from the floor and allowed its opponents to shoot 45.7 percent. Tulane completes the three-game home stand on Wednesday when New Orleans travels across town for a 7 p.m. CST tip in Fogelman Arena. PROBABLE STARTERS
