NEW ORLEANS - After passing the first road test of the season, the Tulane men's basketball team returns home Friday to begin a five-game homestand when Alcorn State invades Fogelman Arena at 7 p.m. CT for the opening game of the 2011 Hoops for Hope Classic.
The tournament begins in Fogelman when New Orleans and San Diego at 4:30 p.m. CT.
The Green Wave (4-0) is off to the program's best start since the 2001-02 season and will be looking to remain unbeaten against Alcorn State (1-2) who has lost two straight.
Tulane defeated Navy, 57-55, Tuesday night in Annapolis led by Kendall Timmons' first double double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Josh Davis added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jordan Callahan had 12 points and five assists.
The Braves are coming off losses at West Virginia and Kent State and are led by senior guard Marquiz Baker with 18.7 points per game. Junior guard Twann Oakley is adding 10.7 points for first-year head coach Luther Riley.
Timmons leads the Green Wave with 17.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while Davis is adding 16.8 points and 10 boards a contest. Callahan is posting 11.3 points and 3.0 assists a game.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
"This will line up great for us," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We won't have much time to prepare for the three games in three days, but we've got a lot of guys that need game action and as a team we need to go against different looks so this tournament will get us further down the road. Hopefully we can develop our depth even further."
The Hoops for Hope Classic returns to Fogelman Arena Saturday when San Diego faces Alcorn State at 4:30 p.m. and Tulane will battle UNO at 7 p.m. CT. The three-tournament tournament concludes Sunday when UNO faces Alcorn State at Lakefront Arena at 2 p.m. and the Green Wave play USD in New Orleans Arena at 6 p.m. CT.
Single game tickets are available for the game at New Orleans Arena as well as the games at Fogelman Arena. Prices are $16 for side court, $10 and $5 (child) for end court. $20 floor seats are limited, but still available for Sunday's game only.
Parking for the general public at New Orleans Arena will be in garage five.
