NEW ORLEANS - With a 79-73 victory at Southern fresh in their minds, the Tulane men's basketball team returns to Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse looking to keep the momentum going as they host Loyola-Chicago on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT to begin a four-game home stand.
The Green Wave (2-0) got past Southern on Wednesday night behind 24 points and nine rebounds from sophomore Louis Dabney, 18 points from freshman Jonathan Stark and an 18-point, 11-rebound outing from junior Jay Hook.
The Ramblers (1-1), out of the Missouri Valley Conference, will play their second straight game on the road after falling, 74-69, at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night.
"Loyola is a member of an outstand conference and this will be another great challenge of us," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We look forward to these challenges. I think our young guys grew up a lot on Wednesday and we hope that carries over into the game on Saturday."
Tulane is led on the floor by Hook who leads four players averaging double figures in scoring. Hook is posting 21.0 points per game to go along with 11.0 rebounds. Dabney adds 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a contest, while Stark is scoring 15.0 per game and dishing out a team-best 4.5 assists. Junior Tre Drye leads the Green Wave with 13.0 boards per game to go with his 10.5 scoring average.
As a team, the Green Wave has averaged 77.0 points over the first two games, but shot just 38.8 percent from the floor. Tulane has, however, connected on 40.0 percent from three-point range and outrebounded opponents by 8.5 per game.
The Ramblers have averaged 72.5 points in their two games and have shot 50.5 percent from the floor. LUC is led by Milton Doyle's 20.5 points per game and Christian Thomas' 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds average.
This will be just the second meeting between the two programs and the first since a 67-52 Tulane win on Dec. 19, 1947.
Tulane's home stand continues next week with the first two games of the Cure UCD Classic when the Green Wave plays Cedarville on Wednesday at Noon CT and Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT.
Season tickets for the 2013-14 Tulane men's basketball season will cost $250 for reserved courtside, $125 for adult baseline, $50 for youth baseline and $300 for the "Family 4 Pack" which includes two adult and two youth tickets.
