PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Ed Conroy era at Tulane officially gets underway Friday night when the Green Wave men's basketball team visits Maryland-Eastern Shore at 6 p.m. CST in the Hytche Athletic Center.

Tulane (0-0) is coming off an 89-60 victory over Loyola in an exhibition game on Sunday night in Fogelman Arena. Senior Kris Richard led the Green Wave with 18 points in the win, while senior Johnny Mayhane added 14 points and senior David Booker and sophomore Jordan Callahan chipped in 13 points each. Tulane as a team shot 52.2 percent from the floor and held the Wolfpack to just 29.6 percent.

UMES (0-0) did not play an exhibition game this season. The Hawks posted an 11-21 record last season under head coach Frankie Allen, who begins his third season on Friday.

"On the road is certainly not an easy way to open the season," Conroy said. "Frankie Allen is a veteran coach and does a great job. They are a challenge because they throw different looks at you so the challenge for our team is can we flow with our offence and how we like to attack in so many different ways. They present a challenge on the defensive end as well because they are going to make us defend a lot of screens."

Richard led the Green Wave in scoring last season with 11.8 points per game, while sophomore Kendall Timmons posted 8.3 points per game, the third highest average a season ago.

"This team is going to have to grow up really fast on this road trip," Conroy added. "I think our guys are ready to give a great effort on Friday night."

This marks the first season opener on the road for Tulane since began the 2004-05 season at LSU.

UMES' top returning scorer, junior guard Hillary Haley, averaged 12.4 points per game last season.

This will be the first meeting between the two schools on the basketball court.

After Friday's game the Green Wave continues the road trip and face Georgetown on Monday at 6 p.m. CST in the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
