NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Shawn Finney Radio Show will be broadcast live from Mike Ditka's Restaurant in downtown New Orleans this season, it was announced by Scott Sidwell, Tulane University's Associate Director of Athletics, on Thursday.
The weekly radio program airs on Tuesday evenings from 7:05 to 8:00 p.m. on WWL (870 AM). The first show will air on Tuesday, Nov. 28, from Ditka's. There are 13 episodes of the show - every Tuesday during the season, except for Dec. 5 (when Tulane hosts Centenary) and Dec. 26 (Holiday break).
Mike Ditka's is located in downtown New Orleans at The Lafayette Hotel at 600 Saint Charles Avenue. Drink and food specials will be available on the nights of the broadcasts.
"I am really excited to be doing my radio show from Mike Ditka's Restaurant," Finney said. "Ditka's has a great sports atmosphere and I am looking forward to being a part of it."
Finney was hired as the head men's basketball coach at Tulane on July 19 after 15 years as an assistant coach. Most recently, he served as an assistant at the University of Kentucky, helping the Wildcats to the 1998 NCAA National Championship. His teams at Kentucky, Georgia, and Tulsa have qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last seven years.
Tulane opens its 2000-2001 season with an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. against Global Sports. Following another exhibition (Saturday, Nov. 11, 12 Noon), the Green Wave opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 17, against Nicholls State at Fogelman Arena.
