Memphis, Tenn. - The Tulane men's basketball team has been picked to finish in ninth place during the 2007 Conference USA regular season according to the 2006 C-USA preseason coaches poll.

The Green Wave posted a 12-17 overall record last season, but managed to finish in a tie for sixth place in the C-USA standings with a 6-8 league mark, despite being picked to finish last in last year's coaches poll. Tulane advanced to the Conference USA quarterfinals with a 64-58 win over Marshall, but fell to eventual champion Memphis in the quarters.

Tulane returns eight letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team and welcomes back one red-shirt player and features four newcomers. Junior David Gomez is TU's top returning scorer with 11.9 points per game, while classmate Donnie Stith is Tulane's top returning rebounder with 5.1 boards per contest.

Coming off a No. 1 seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, the Memphis Tigers repeat as the unanimous preseason favorite to win the 2006-07 C-USA men's basketball regular-season crown, according to the league's coaches. Rice's Morris Almond, a preseason All-America candidate, was the unanimous selection by coaches as the Preseason Player of the Year.

Houston was picked to finish in second place, while UAB, under new head coach Mike Davis, was chosen to finish third. Rice and UTEP were each picked to finish in a tie for fourth place, while Tulsa, UCF and SMU were each picked to finish ahead of the Wave.

Memphis will serve as host city for the 2007 Conference USA Championship presented by Aeropostale, March 7-10 at the state-of-the-art FedExForum. The quarterfinal and semifinal games will be carried on CSTV. The championship game is slated for Saturday, March 10 at 11:35 a.m. EST/10:35 a.m. CST on CBS.
