NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University men's and women's basketball teams will officially open their 2001-2002 seasons this Friday evening with "Midnight Chill" at Fogelman Arena.
Doors will open for "Midnight Chill" at 11 p.m. Fans will have opportunities to participate in various games and contests, with the highlight being the raffle of a free trip to Cancun for two lucky fans. The first 500 fans will receive free t-shirts. Concession stands will be open and admission is free to all.
According to NCAA rules, basketball teams can not begin practice until Saturday, Oct. 13. Thus the two Green Wave teams will tip-off at the stroke of midnight with a ceremonial practice highlighted by dunking and shooting contests by players from both teams.
After 68 years of basketball at Fogelman Arena, the venue will have an exciting new feature for this season: air conditioning, hence the "Midnight Chill" theme. In addition to the air conditioning, Fogelman has received a full make-over with a newly refinished floor and a complete paint job.
The Tulane men's basketball team will play its first exhibition game of the season on Thursday, Nov. 1 against VASDA, a team of former college and professional players. The Green Wave women, who have made seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, will open their exhibition season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 against the Houston Jaguars.
