NEW ORLEANS - Thanks to a change made by the NCAA, men's basketball teams around the country were able to begin the 2013-14 season on Friday afternoon and Tulane was no different as fourth-year head coach Ed Conroy led his team onto the courts of the Hertz Practice Center kick off the campaign.
The NCAA allowed schools to move the first practice date up two weeks this year. The rule still gives teams the same amount of practice days, but stretches it out over a longer period of time.
"I'm excited. I think this (new rule) benefits this team," Conroy said. "We will be able to spread the practices out more and have more live reps because we can take time off in between the practices and it gives us more time to prepare for the season. It is really what this young team needs. We've got young healthy bodies that need to get out there and bang a little bit and have some live reps."
Conroy's Green Wave team consists of three seniors (Max Keenan, Kevin Thomas and Tomas Bruha), two juniors (Jay Hook and Tre Drye), two sophomores (Louis Dabney and Kajon Mack) and eight freshmen (Jonathan Stark, Mikael Herbert, Cameron Reynolds, Cole Currie, Josh Hearlihy, Ryan Smith, Payton Henson and Ray Barreno).
Tulane will host Loyola (New Orleans) in an exhibition game on Nov. 3 at Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse and then opens the regular season on Nov. 8 with New Jersey Institute of Technology at 8 p.m. CT as the second half of a double header with the Green Wave women's team.
Season tickets for the 2013-14 Tulane men's basketball season will cost $500 for floor seats, $250 for reserved courtside, $125 for adult baseline, $50 for youth baseline and $300 for the "Family 4 Pack" which includes 2 adult and 2 youth tickets.
