Tulane Names Dannhoff Assistant Coach
June 16, 2004 NEW ORLEANS, La. - A member of the Tulane University men's basketball staff for three years, Mark Dannhoff will add on-court coaching and recruiting responsibilities as an assistant coach in 2004-05, head coach Shawn Finney announced on Wednesday. "Mark is a veteran coach who brings a lot to the table," Finney said. "He is a great nuts and bolts guy who has worked in many different systems, yet he has familiarity with our program. In his new role, he will be able to bring all of those talents onto the court every day, as well as take an active role in recruiting." Dannhoff has 14 years of collegiate experience on his résumé. He will be involved in all aspects of the Green Wave program from recruiting and scouting to on-court coaching. "I am thrilled that Coach Finney has given me the opportunity to increase my role with Tulane," Dannhoff said. "I am excited about what we have in place here. We are all optimistic about the future for Green Wave basketball and I am pleased to be a part of it." Dannhoff joined Finney's Green Wave staff in 2001-02 after a year as an assistant at crosstown rival University of New Orleans. During the 2000-01 season, the Privateers showed an eight-win improvement over the previous year. Prior to arriving in the Big Easy, Dannhoff served as an assistant coach at Centenary College in 1999-2000. He also assisted legendary coach Wimp Sanderson at Arkansas-Little Rock for one season. Before joining Coach Sanderson, Dannhoff was the top assistant and defensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ark. He also coordinated recruiting at Tech. A native of LaCrosse, Wis., Dannhoff lettered in basketball at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Following his graduation with a bachelor's degree in physical education, he joined the Eagle staff as an assistant coach. He also earned his master's degree in education and professional development at UW-LaCrosse. After two seasons with his alma mater, he accepted the head coaching position at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, Minn., in 1992. In each of his years at Northland, the Pioneers improved on their win total and during the 1995-96 season, Dannhoff guided the team to the Northern Division Championship and a MCCC Regional tournament berth. Dannhoff replaces Wade O'Connor, who left to pursue other opportunities. The Green Wave is tentatively scheduled to open the 2004-05 season at LSU with an intrastate tournament featuring the Tigers, UL-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech.
