April 11, 2012

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane men's basketball players Ricky Tarrant and Josh Davis were each honored by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association when the two first-year Green Wave players received postseason accolades.

Tarrant, a freshman from Pleasant Grove, Ala., was named the Louisiana Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the five-member first team All-Louisiana team, while Davis, a sophomore transfer from Raleigh, N.C., was named third team All-Louisiana.

The All-Louisiana awards are voted on by media members throughout the state of Louisiana and the nominating schools' sports information directors.

Tarrant, who was also named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and first team All-C-USA, led Tulane in scoring (14.9 ppg), assists (102), steals (52) and free throws made and attempted (131-167) and was second in 3-pointers made with 52.

During the season Tarrant posted 24 double figure scoring games, including nine with at least 20 points with a pair of 33-point scoring games. He recorded his first 33-point game in a thrilling come-from-behind win at home over SMU on Jan. 25. The second 33-point performance came in front of his hometown crowd at UAB on Feb. 18 when he poured in 29 points in the second half alone.

Tarrant joined LSWA Player of the Year Patrick Richard of McNeese State, William Mosley from Northwestern State, LSU's Justin Hamilton and Grambling's Quincy Roberts on the first team All-Louisiana team.

Davis led the Green Wave with 9.3 rebounds per game and was fourth in scoring with 11.2 points per outing. The transfer from N.C. State began his Tulane career with seven double doubles in his first nine games and finished the season with 12 double doubles.
