New Orleans - Tulane University junior David Gomez has been named to the 2007 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) second team, it was announced today by the LSWA.
A 6'8" forward from Baton Rouge, La., Gomez averaged started 27 of 30 games and led the Green Wave in scoring (13.5), rebounding (5.8), field goals (148), free throws (106) and was second in blocks (42) en route to earning All-Conference USA Third Team accolades.
He reached double figures in 22 games, including two 30-point performances, and registered three double-doubles. He completed the season ranked among C-USA's top-10 for field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocked shots, and defensive rebounds.
Gomez's steady play helped Tulane to a 17-13 overall record, the most wins in one season since the 1999-2000 campaign when the Wave chalked up a 20-11 record, and TU advanced to the Conference USA Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2000.
He scored a career-best 32 points at cross-town rival New Orleans, and reached the 30-point plateau for the first time in his collegiate career earlier in the season at former C-USA member, TCU.
Gomez will begin his senior season needing just 83 points to become the 29th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
The team members are nominated by the sports information directors at the state men's basketball-playing schools and then voted on by members of the LSWA.
