Strong First Half Lifts Men's Basketball Over Marshall
A first-half offensive explosion lifted the Tulane men's basketball team to a 91-75 victory over visiting Marshall on Wednesday night in a Conference USA contest in Devlin Fieldhouse.

"This group is mentally tough and they have showed that in these last few games," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "It just comes down to fine tuning some things to get a little better on both ends of the floor. This is March and all it takes in one hot team to make a run. We are working hard to be that team."

Marshall (13-18, 6-10 C-USA) enters the tournament having dropped three of four, including an 86-79 defeat at East Carolina on Saturday in Greenville.

"Marshall will certainly be a different team than the one we faced back in early February," Conroy said. "We know how good they can be and we will need to be prepared. Anything can happen during conference tournament time. This is an exciting time of the year for sure."

Tulane is making its 18th appearance in the Conference USA Championships. The Green Wave, a charter member of the conference, now owns a 7-17 record in the tournament and has reached the semifinals twice in 2000 and again in 2007).

This season marks the third time the Green Wave is the No. 8 seed and the first time since the 2009 season. Tulane owns a 2-2 record as the eight seed.

This will also be the third time Tulane and Marshall will square off in the tournament. The Green Wave is 2-0 against the Thundering Herd in the previous two meetings, winning once in 2006 and again in 2008, both in the opening round.

The winner of the Wednesday's game will advance into the second round and face top seeded Memphis at 6 p.m. CT at the BOK Center.
