NEW ORLEANS - Jonathan Stark, a guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
The conference awards were voted on by the conference's 16 head coaches and selected members of the media.
Stark averaged 14.2 points, 4.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game this season for the Green Wave who enter the C-USA Championships with a 16-15 overall record and an 8-8 league mark.
"I'm proud of Jonathan," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "He has outstanding coachability and has been aggressive all season long. He has really developed throughout the season because he has attacked every practice and every game with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. That's what makes for a guy to improve all year and have a successful campaign.'
The Munford, Tenn., native was the conference's second leading freshman scorer and was second in assists. Stark was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week on three occasions and earned Player of the Week once.
Stark, who scored in double figures in 24 games this season with a high of 25 against both Loyola-Chicago and Washington, is the first Green Wave player to earn a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team since Ricky Tarrant in 2012 and he is just the sixth player in Tulane history to receive the honor.
Tulane and Stark will open the Conference USA Championships on Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT as the No. 7 seed against the winner of Tuesday first-round game between No. 10 seed North Texas and No. 15 seed Rice.
