New Orleans - Tulane University senior David Gomez received his second award in as many weeks for his stellar performance this season with his selection to the 2008 Conference USA Second Team, as it was announced today by the league office.

A 6'8" forward from Baton Rouge, La., Gomez is a repeat performer to the conference's postseason team as he garnered third team accolades a year ago. He is the first Tulane player to receive second team recognition since Brandon Brown in 2002, and is just the third Green Wave player to earn Conference USA honors in back-to-back seasons since the school became a member in 1995-96. Gomez joins Jerald Honeycutt (1st) and Rayshard Allen (2nd), both of whom earned All C-USA honors during the in 1996 and 1997 campaigns.

Last week, Gomez was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 8 First Team. He was among 150 players from 15 districts selected and is now eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams, which will be announced on Saturday, April 5 at the 2008 NABC Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

During the 2007-08 campaign, Gomez has already led the Green Wave to its second straight winning season with 16 victories heading into Wednesday's Conference USA Tournament first round game. He has started 29 of 30 games and leads the team in scoring (14.5), rebounding (6.1), blocks (45), field goals (150), field goals attempted (282), free throws (126) and free throws attempted (172). Gomez has reached double figures in 23 games this season, including 13 straight at one point, and has scored 20 or more points five times.

He was named the Conference USA Player of the Week on Jan. 7 and Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week on Jan. 31. Gomez ranks among C-USA's top 10 leaders in scoring (8th), field goal percentage (8th), blocks (8th) and defensive rebounds (10th).

For his career, he has played in 116 career games with 98 starts and ranks 12th among the school's all-time scoring leaders and is 14th for career rebounds. Gomez also ranks among the school's top-10 career leaders for blocked shots (139), free throws (373), free throw attempts (518), games played and games started. He is the 14th player in school history to register 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
