NEW ORLEANS - Jordan Callahan, a freshman point guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named the Conference USA Rookie of the Week on Monday following his performance last week in the Green Wave's games against Southern Miss and Houston.

Callahan led Tulane in scoring in both games this past week. He poured in a career-high 21 points on 7-8 shooting from the field with four 3-pointers and grabbed a career-high five rebounds in a 79-76 victory over Houston on Saturday. He also posted 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with four 3-pointers in a 66-57 loss at Southern Miss on Tuesday.

The Marietta, Ga., native started for the Green Wave and sparked quick starts in both outings. At Southern Miss, he drained a 3-pointer in the first few minutes of the game to expand Tulane's lead to 7-2 and finished the opening half with eight points. In the victory over Houston, Callahan made all five of his shots in the first half, including four 3-pointers to post 14 points at the break that helped Tulane hold as much as a 19-point first-half lead.

The honor is the first for Tulane this season Callahan's first of his career.

Callahan and Tulane return to the court on Wednesday in the first round of the GMC Sierra Conference USA Championship in Tulsa, Okla., at the BOK Center. The Green Wave face Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m. CST.
