HOUSTON - Looking to keep climbing up the standing in Conference USA, the Tulane men's basketball team visits Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT trying to win their fourth game in five attempts.
The Green Wave (17-9, 5-6 C-USA) has won three of the last four outings, including a 78-67 victory at home over SMU last Saturday. Tulane has also defeated Marshall and Houston during the stretch.
Tulane sits in seventh place in the conference standings with the 5-6 record, a half-game behind East Carolina and Tulsa for fifth. The Green Wave also sits just two games out of third-place with five games left in the regular season.
Tulane Pulls Away Late from Rice, 73-66, Behind Davis' 22 Points
Junior Josh Davis scored a team-high 22 points and sophomore Rickey Tarrant and senior Jordan Callahan chipped in 16 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Green Wave past a gritty Rice squad, 73-66, in front of 1,698 at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Rice sits in 12th place in the league standings, two games behind SMU.
"Rice can be a very dangerous team," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We struggled with them a few weeks ago at home and we know how good they can play. We will have to come ready to play, especially on the road."
The Owls are led by senior guard Tamir Jackson with 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Julian DeBose also averages in double figures with 10.0 points per outing.
Josh Davis leads Tulane into the game. The junior forward averages 17.5 points and a conference-best 9.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Ricky Tarrant adds 15.5 points point and a team-high 3.2 assists per contest, while senior guard Jordan Callahan averages 10.9 points per outing.
This will be the 50th meeting between the two schools. Tulane owns a slim 25-24 series lead, including the 73-66 victory in New Orleans back on Jan. 26. Rice had won three straight over the Green Wave before that game and owns a 16-7 series advantage in games played in Houston.
Tulane hosts UAB at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Devlin Fieldhouse before traveling to Tulsa next Saturday for a 7 p.m. CT tip.
