NEW ORLEANS - After having its two-game winning streak snapped at Southern Miss on Wednesday, the Tulane men's basketball team looks to get back on track Saturday when they host SMU at 1:30 p.m. CT in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The game will be broadcast live on the Fox Sports Network and, as with every game, will be aired on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (106.1 FM "The Ticket" in the New Orleans area).
The Green Wave (16-9, 4-6 C-USA) fell to USM, 71-60, but erased a 16-point second half deficit only to fall short.
Men's Basketball Falls at SMU, 59-53
Despite getting 24 points from sophomore guard Ricky Tarrant and a double double from junior forward Josh Davis, the Tulane men's basketball team could not get past SMU on Saturday afternoon, falling 59-53, in the Conference USA game in Moody Coliseum.
"Again, SMU comes in here as a familiar team for us," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "But, at the same time we know that both teams are different than when we meet in January. Our guys will have to be ready to play for the entire 40 minutes."
SMU defeated the Tulane, 59-53, in Dallas back on Jan. 12 for their first conference win. Since that point, the Green Wave has won four of seven games and sit tied for seventh in the Conference USA standings. The Mustangs have lost five of seven since that meeting and sit tied for 10th in the league.
Tulane is led by Josh Davis. The junior forward has posted 14 double doubles this season and is averaging 17.6 points and a conference-best 10.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore Ricky Tarrant is adding 15.2 points and a team-high 3.0 assists per game.
Senior guard Jordan Callahan, who is averaging 10.6 points per game, enters the game needing just three 3-pointers to tie Jerald Honeycutt's school record for made 3-pointers.
SMU is led by sophomore guard Jalen Jones with 15.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while junior guard Nick Russell adds 14.2 points and 3.8 assists per contest.
This will be the 28th meeting between the two schools. SMU owns a slim 15-12 series, including last month's victory. The Green Wave does own a 10-3 series lead in games played in New Orleans, including two straight wins over the Mustangs.
Tulane has a mid-week bye before heading to Houston on Saturday to face Rice at 7 p.m. CT.
