Poor Shooting Hampers Men's Basketball in C-USA loss to UTEP
Poor shooting hampered the Tulane men's basketball team on Wednesday night in the Conference USA opener, falling to UTEP, 66-57, in Devlin Fieldhouse.
"Both teams are now familiar with each other at this point and we took a lot away from the first meeting, just like I'm sure they did as well," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We know how good they are and how well coached they are. Our guys have to come out ready to play on the road in a tough venue."
Josh Davis leads Tulane into the rematch. The junior forward leads the conference in both scoring with 17.5 points per game and rebounding with 10.2 per outing. Sophomore guard Ricky Tarrant adds 15.4 points per game and leads the league is scoring in conference games only with 17.5 points a contest.
UTEP is led by sophomore Julian Washburn's 12.3 points per game, while Konner Tucker adds 12.0 points per outing.
The Miners sit in fourth-place in the conference standings, a game behind UCF and a half game ahead of Tulsa. Tulane sits tied for seventh with Marshall, a half-game behind East Carolina and a half-game ahead of both Houston and SMU.
This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools. UTEP owns an 8-3 series lead, including five of the last six. UTEP is a perfect 5-0 against Tulane in El Paso. The Miners took the first meeting this season, 66-57, back on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.
