NEW ORLEANS - Ricky Tarrant, a guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
The weekly awards are voted on by a media panel representing the 12 member schools.
Tarrant set a Tulane freshman single-game record with 33 points in an 80-74 victory at home over SMU and added a team-high 18 points in a road loss at Rice as the Green Wave (14-7, 2-5 C-USA) split games this week in C-USA play. The Pleasant Grove, Ala., native poured in 26 of his 33 in the second half to lead Tulane in the come-from-behind victory over the Mustangs. The Green Wave trailed SMU by eight at the half, but Tarrant hit all four of his three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes of the game. He also knocked down five of six free throws in the final 1:09 of the game to help secure the win.
Tarrant, who is averaging a C-USA best 18.4 points per conference game, led Tulane with 18 points at Rice, including hitting all nine of his free throw attempts, and dished out a career-high eight assists.
This is his fourth C-USA Freshman of the Week honor this season.
Tarrant and the Green Wave travel to Marshall on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. CT tip at the Cam Henderson Center before returning home to host Houston on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT in Fogelman Arena.
