BEAUMONT, Texas - Tulane's men's basketball team sent 2009 out with a victory and the Green Wave look to open 2010 in the same way when they visit the Montagne Center to face Lamar at 7 p.m. CST on Saturday.

Tulane (5-7) extended its win streak to two games and sent out 2009 with a 78-54 victory at home over North Carolina A&T on Wednesday night.

Lamar (6-7), out of the Southland Conference, also won a second straight game on Wednesday, defeating St. Gregory's 76-53 at home. The Cardinals have won three of the last four games and all six wins have come at home this season.

"Lamar is a tough place to play," Tulane head coach Dave Dickerson said. "This is similar to our game at UL-Lafayette in that they are a very good team at home. We have to play solid basketball for 40 minutes to try and get a win."

Kris Richard, who will be playing in front of his hometown crowd for the first time since his graduation from Beaumont's Ozen High School, leads Tulane with 13.7 points per game.

"It will be a special game for Kris. He will have a lot of family and friends at the game that don't normally get to come down to New Orleans to watch him play," Dickerson added. "But, this is a very important game for our team because we are trying to get better every time we walk on the floor and this game is very important as far as our progression going into conference play."

This game is the final non-conference game of the season for the Green Wave, who open Conference USA play on Wednesday at Tulsa.

Kevin Sims joins Richard in double figure scoring with 12.8 points per game. Sims also is dishing out a team-high 3.4 assists per contest. David Booker is scoring 8.3 points and collecting a team-best 4.3 rebounds per game, while Aaron Holmes adds 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

Sophomore guard Anthony Miles leads the Cardinals with 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per outing. Justin Nabors, a senior forward, adds 12.5 points and 9.2 boards.

As a team Lamar is posting 68.9 points per game and outrebounds its opponents by 7.5 rebounds per game.

Tulane is scoring 64.6 points per game and is holding opponents to 64.2 points per contest.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and the first since Tulane defeated Lamar, 81-71, on Jan. 3, 2001 in Fogelman Arena. The Green Wave also won the other two meetings, including the only match-up in Beaumont, a 51-45 decision on Dec. 11, 1999.

After Wednesday's Conference USA opener at Tulsa, the Green Wave return home to host UAB on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST in Fogelman Arena.
