NEW ORLEANS, La. - Sophomore Quincy Davis tallied career-bests of 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead Tulane University to a 77-57 victory over Loyola University in Sunday night men's basketball action at Fogelman Arena.

The 6-9 Davis took advantage of his size against the smaller Wolfpack, connecting on 12-of-18 shots, including a career-best five dunks. He also had eight offensive rebounds. Junior Ben Benfield was the only other Green Wave player in double figures, tallying 14 points and career-highs of eight rebounds and five assists.

"I think Quincy can do this every night," Tulane coach Shawn Finney said. "He is oozing with potential. We have just scratched the surface. He is so long and he has great touch. Any time he gets it deep, it's two points."

Loyola (3-6), an NAIA school with a campus which overlaps Tulane's, battled tough through the first half, trailing just 36-29 at the break.

However, Tulane (3-0) dominated the game early in the second half, opening the stanza with a 25-6 run, keyed by eight points from Davis. Loyola cut it back to 16 with a 12-2 run of its own, making it 63-47 with 6:15 to go. Benfield put the Wave back on track when he made a steal at midcourt and converted a three-point play to push it back to 19.

"We came out aggressive in the second half and we continued to get the ball inside," Finney said. "We got the press going. We forced them to take unpracticed shots. We wanted to make them put it on the floor and make them play faster than their comfort zone."

Tulane shot just 42.3 percent (33-of-78) from the field, but held Loyola to 36.2 percent (21-of-58) shooting. The Wave also had a season-low 12 turnovers while forcing 18 Wolfpack miscues. Led by Davis, the home team held a commanding 53-34 advantage in rebounds. Tulane outscored Loyola, 48-24, in the paint.

It was the fourth meeting in four years for the two neighbors, with Tulane winning all four games. Loyola has seven straight games against NCAA Division I opponents, with Tulane being its third.

"We did a good job," Finney added. "This is a good win for us with a young team and a short turnaround."

Tulane had played Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon, winning 80-50.
