Final Stats

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Wayne Tinsley recorded his first career double-double, but eighth-ranked Louisville still pulled away from Tulane for a 79-58 victory in Conference USA men's basketball action on Saturday evening at a sold-out Freedom Hall. The Cardinals have won 13 games in a row.

Tinsley tallied 14 points and matched his career-high with 10 rebounds, while also connecting on a career-best four three-pointers. The senior has hit 14 of his last 23 three-point attempts. Sophomore Quincy Davis added 16 points and eight rebounds, while junior Marcus Kinzer had 15 points and seven boards.

Tulane (6-7, 0-3 C-USA) pulled within 10 at 48-38 on a Davis baseline jumper with 16:23 to go, but Louisville (13-1, 4-0 C-USA) used a 9-0 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach. A Tinsley three stopped the Cardinal spurt, igniting an 11-5 Wave run to pull within 13 at 62-49 with 6:49 to go, but that was as close as Tulane would get.

"I am proud of our guys," Tulane coach Shawn Finney said. "We played hard for the full 40 minutes. We have a young team and it's easy to surrender with the big crowd and their press. We can build on this but we're not where we need to be yet."

Louisville hit just three field goals over the final 8:54 of the game, but the Cardinals were 12-of-14 from the line during that period.

Facing a full-court press for the entire game, Tulane committed 23 turnovers, while forcing 13 by Louisville. The Green Wave shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the field, while holding the Cardinals to a season-low 35.4 percent (23-of-65) shooting. Louisville held a 46-40 advantage on the boards.

The Cardinals were led by Luke Whitehead's 16 points and nine rebounds, while Taquan Dean had 15 points and Larry O'Bannon added 13.

Tulane returns to action on Tuesday evening, hosting Memphis at Fogelman Arena at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for the game by calling 504-861-WAVE.
