NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Neil Reed scored 13 points, Kevin Winn scored 10 and each had a game-high 8 rebounds Saturday as Southern Mississippi beat Tulane, 56-49, to remain unbeaten in Conference USA.
USM (10-4 overall, 2-0 in CUSA) trailed by 27-21 at halftime as Tulane (5-5, 0-2) made 11 of 29 field goals versus 7 of 25 for the Golden Eagles.
But the Green Wave went cold in the second half, making just 8 of 33 field goals against a USM defense that ranks 14th in the nation in scoring defense, while the Golden Eagles made 12 of their 29 field goal attempts.
USM also held a 43-40 rebounding edge and a 14-8 advantage from the foul line, where Reed made all 7 of the shots he had and Winn shooting 2-for-2.
Tulane, which made just 1 of 10 3-point goals in the second half and 3 of 22 for the game, was led by Dylan Osean with 10 points.
