New Orleans - The Tulane baseball team will host the annual St. Michael's Special School softball game at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium this Saturday, October 17, beginning at 9:30 a.m., and will follow the event with an intra squad scrimmage, which is open to the public.

Tulane Baseball and St. Michael's are long time partners with the event, which is entering its 15th year of the partnership. The students of St. Michael's will take to the field for a series of scrimmages divided by age groups. Members of the Green Wave baseball team will be on the field assisting each St. Michael's student in every aspect of the game, including fielding and hitting. St. Michael's, a New Orleans-based institute specializing in the development of special needs children and young adults, bring students to take part in the softball event.

"Saint Michael's Special School has been a partner with Tulane Baseball for many years," Tulane head coach Rick Jones said. "This is more than just community service for us. Anytime our guys visit with these students, whether at St. Michaels or here at Tulane for the softball game, it is a great day for every one for everyone involved."

The softball game is sponsored by Fed-Ex and there will be brief award ceremony following the scrimmage. Tulane Baseball encourages all Tulane employees and friends/fans of Tulane to please come out and support us in this event.

The Green Wave visited the school this past Monday and had a chance to see the great things that St. Michael's has to offer its students and to get the students excited about the softball game on Saturday.

Since fall ball started on Oct. 6, the Wave has practiced nine times and has conducted three intra squad scrimmages. Tulane will return to the baseball diamond this Sunday for a 1 p.m. scrimmage.

"It is tough to contain my excitement and enthusiasm I have for this young club. The scrimmages this past weekend were enjoyable and exciting. I encourage our fans to come out to some of these scrimmages and get to know these new players. I think our fans are going to really enjoy watching this club grow and mature," Jones said.
