On the Schedule as a Whole
"I think our schedule parallels the schedules that we have been playing (at Tulane) for a long time. We have a really strong home schedule. We play in one of the top five leagues in the country, so you know (the) conference schedule is going to be tough. The quality of play in our middle of the week games are as good as anywhere in the country and better than most."
"Our preseason schedule will be challenging. When you look at schools like Wichita State and Ole Miss, those are going to be challenging weekends, too. I think (our schedule) is very balanced and can provide us the RPI points if we do are part."
About the Tough Early Season Schedule
"In the years that we have had our most success, we have had great weekends during our pre-conference schedule against perennial national powers. That is how we developed this program and we are always going to test our program that way. You want to find out as much as you can about your club in the pre-conference and build as many RPI points as you can."
About the Regional Feel to the 2011 Slate
"There are so many good Division I programs in our state that it helps you in a scheduling aspect. You can schedule great competition during the middle of the week, without having to go too far to do that. We don't leave the city limits, except for a few trips, and it is great for our fans. There is no sacrificing the competition level just because you are playing in-state schools. That is one of the things that has always been attractive about being here. You are in a part of the country where college baseball is very important and you have kids growing up wanting to become college baseball players."
On the Conference USA Tournament at a Neutral Site
"I think this was a great step for our league. We now have a conference tournament site and format that is similar to some of the other power conferences. The site in Jackson is an easy drive for our fans and we will be playing in a ballpark that has the same playing surface that we have (at Turchin Stadium). The three year agreement allows our fans to start planning ahead and with a new eight-team format, only one team will be left out."
"The conference is also sticking to the pool play format, so every team is guaranteed a game on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with the championship game on Saturday. You know you are going to play three games, which can help your late season chances, as far as the NCAA Tournament, and I am really excited about this. I feel it was a great move by our conference."
