NEW ORLEANS - With the summer winding down and school just around the corner, the remaining four Tulane baseball players who spent the last few months honing their skills in collegiate summer leagues across the United States ended their seasons this past week.
Here is a breakdown of the highlights for the tenth week of summer league baseball.
The stats compiled here are posted on each player's respective league site.
CAPE COD LEAGUE
Ian Gibaut - Hyannis Harbor Hawks
Gibaut's Harbor Hawks ended their summer last Monday with a 3-2 loss to the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, and the Houston product saw the mound in the contest. The rising junior tossed 0.2 innings, striking out both batters he faced. On the summer, the righty went 1-2 with a 5.78 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen. Gibaut posted 19 strikeouts to just six walks. Additionally, Gibaut held opponents to just a .216 batting average while recording a WHIP of 1.21.
TEXAS COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Troy Ward - Victoria Generals
Ward made one appearance out of the bullpen for the Generals last week, pitching an inning against the Woodlands Strykers on Aug. 7. In that contest - a 8-4 win for the Generals - Ward walked one while retiring the other two batters he faced. On the summer, the North Richland Hills, Texas, native went 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 18 games. He totaled 35.2 innings, striking out 16 and walking 17 while holding hitters to a .235 batting average.
FUTURES COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Jake Willsey - Brockton Rox
Willsey had a relatively productive week for the Rox, helping the team advance to the FCBL Playoffs. During the final four games of the regular season, the Chestnut Hills, Massachusetts, native collected four hits - three of which went for extra bases - while adding seven RBI. The rising sophomore went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a 4-2 win over the Nashua Silver Knights on Aug. 5. The following day, he recorded an RBI, but was held hitless in four at-bats. On Aug. 7, Willsey notched three RBI, a double and a walk in a 7-0 win over the Seacoast Mavericks before scoring a run and tripling during a 5-2 win over the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide. The Rox lost their play-in game on Aug. 9 to the Pittsfield Suns with Willsey going 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. On the summer, Willsey played in 27 games, hitting .286 with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 RBI.
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Dan Rankin - Danbury Westerners
Did not appear in any contests last week. On the summer, Rankin went 0-0 with a 3.11 ERA in seven games. The righty totaled 8.2 innings, striking out eight and walking five while holding hitters to a .214 batting average.
