AUBURN, N.Y. - He has not been up there very long, but it's obvious that he has made his mark during his short stay, as former Tulane Green Wave and current Auburn Doubleday pitcher David Napoli was named to the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, announced the league Sunday afternoon.

Napoli, a southpaw from New Orleans, starred for the Green Wave from 2009-12. He was selected by the Washington Nationals with the 256th overall pick in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in early June.

In 11 relief appearances for the Short-Season A affiliate of the Nationals, Napoli has posted a 1-0 record with three saves. In 19.2 innings of action, he has fanned 23 while walking only eight and notching an ERA of 1.37. Napoli is second on the Doubleday's in ERA by pitchers who have recorded more than eight or more appearances. He is second on the team in saves, fifth in appearances and is tied for fourth in strikeouts.

In his four years on the Uptown campus, Napoli was 13-9 with a 3.64 ERA, striking out 173 in 220 innings. For his career, he is tied for 19th in Tulane history in appearances with 62, and is 22nd in lowest ERA.

During his senior campaign, he posted the second best opponent's batting average in Tulane history for a single season by allowing hitters to only hit .176 when he was on the mound. He was also second in the entire NCAA in 2013 in hits allowed per nine innings (5.32).

The All-Star Game is scheduled for Aug. 13 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn., the home of the Connecticut Tigers. Similar to the MLB All-Star Game, each team in the league must have at least one representative during the exhibition. Napoli is the lone Doubleday player on the roster.

The All-Star teams are split up by their major league affiliate's league. Therefore, Napoli will play for the National League squad.
