NEW ORELANS, La. - USA Baseball announced today the names of 22 collegiate players that have made the 2001 USA Baseball National Team, following four days of trials in Tucson, Arizona. Tulane's Michael Aubrey and Anthony Giarratano made the cut and will represent Tulane on the team this summer.
The USA National Team was selected from a pool of 29 collegiate players from across the nation.
Aubrey and Giarratano are the fourth and fifth Tulane players to compete on the USA National Team. Assistant Coach Chad Sutter, former Green Wave third baseman Jake Gautreau and first baseman James Jurries also played on Team USA.
Last summer Aubrey competed on the USA Junior National team, mainly as a pitcher. He posted a 2.53 ERA through 10 2/3 innings of work.
Team USA will play approximately 30 games on the Red, White and Blue
Summer Tour, beginning on June 22 with the 30th annual USA vs Japan
Collegiate All-Star Series, which this year will be played in Japan. The
team is also scheduled to play six games in Alaska and will end the
season with a series against Taiwan.
