NEW OLEANS, La. - Tulane closer Brandon Belanger signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Padres on Friday.

Belanger , a Houma, La. native, is the all-time saves leader in Tulane history with 27. Belanger recorded a Conference USA best 11 saves in 2000. He compiled a 3.99 ERA through 49 2/3 innings of work with 49 strikeouts and 10 walks. Belanger went 4-2 overall and 3-0 in Conference USA play. His 16 saves in 1999 set a Tulane single season record.
