NEW ORLEANS -- After sweeping through the New Orleans Regional last weekend, the No. 5 national seed Tulane Green Wave will play host to intrastate rival LSU in an NCAA Super Regional match-up at 11,000-seat Zephyr Field, the NCAA announced on a conference call Monday. Tulane, with a record of 53-10 on the year, is one of eight Super Regional hosts. The Green Wave defeated Oklahoma State, 9-8, Sunday at Turchin Stadium to advance to the Super Regional for the first time in school history.
"I'm excited about hosting," said Tulane Head Coach Rick Jones. "The great thing about Zephyr Field is it means so many more people will see the games. I would hope that every Tulane fan will do everything possible to make sure we maintain a home field advantage."
The Super Regional is a best two-out-of-three series between the Green Wave and the Tigers with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The first game will be played Friday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. with the second contest scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2. If there is a game three, it will be played Sunday, June 3 with first pitch at 12:30 p.m.
"Above all, we wanted to host the Super Regional in New Orleans -- for our team and for our fans," said Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson. "This gives us the opportunity to do that for the first time in school history. The Tulane-LSU rivalry showcases the best in college baseball and this series will put the eyes of the college baseball world on Louisiana."
