NEW ORLEANS, La. - One day after becoming a semifinalist for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy, junior southpaw Brian Bogusevic was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2005 Roger Clemens Award, the Greater Houston Baseball Association announced Friday.

Bogusevic advanced to the semifinal list after leading the Green Wave in ERA (2.60), innings pitched (97.0) and opponent batting average (.235), while tying for the team lead in wins (10) and ranking second in strikeouts with 98. While his time at the plate has been limited due to an early-season hamstring pull, he has made good on his chances at the plate where he is hitting .351 with seven doubles and 19 RBI in 94 at-bats.

Along the way, Bogusevic has posted eight-plus strikeout performances seven times, including 10 at Louisville on March 26 and a career-best 13 in the season-opener vs. Southeast Missouri State on Feb. 11. He started three shutout ballgames in 2004, including a complete-game blanking at Pepperdine on Feb. 25. Bogusevic, who leads Conference USA in innings pitched, went at least 8.0 innings five times and allowed four or fewer hits in seven of his 14 starts.

Individual honors are nothing new for Bogusevic as the native of Oak Lawn, Ill., was named Preseason All-American by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA, and was the early choice for Conference USA Player of the Year. In addition, Bogusevic has been named a semifinalist to the Howser Trophy, which is presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and to the watchlist for the Golden Spikes award, which is awarded to college baseball's top player by USA Baseball.

In addition, Bogusevic, has been named C-USA Pitcher of the Week twice and garnered the honor from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on two other occasions. He also claimed Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week recognition from Collegiate Baseball and CSTV Student-Athlete of the Week from College Sports Television on Feb. 14.

Created in 2004, the Roger Clemens Award honors the top pitcher in college baseball. The award is named after future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens, who began his march to stardom while leading the University of Texas to the College World Series title in 1983. Entering the 2005 Major League season, Clemens has won over 330 games, fanned over 4,000 hitters and won seven Cy Young Awards.

Joining Bogusevic is the list of semifinalist are Conference USA pitcher Lance Broadway of TCU, as well as Cal State Fullerton's Ricky Romero, Oregon State's Dallas Buck, Miami's Cesar Carillo, Wichita State's Mike Pelfrey, Tennessee's Luke Hochevar, Southern Cal's Ian Kennedy, Long Beach State's Cesar Ramos and Missouri's Max Scherzer.

The 10 semifinalists were selected in an initial round of voting by all Division I head baseball coaches, a selection of national college baseball media, the 16 winners of the R.E. Bob Smith Award and the three finalists from the first Clemens Award. The second round of voting to select the three finalists will run from May 24-June 2, with the results announced on June 3. The winner of the second Roger Clemens Award will be announced on Thursday, July 14 at the Marriott Westchase Hotel in Houston, Texas.
