NEW ORLEANS, La. - Barth Melius had one of his best outings to date on Sunday against Memphis and picked up Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
In the relief appearance on Sunday, Melius recorded a career high nine strikeouts and faced just four over the minimum through eight innings. He scattered four hits and gave up only one run.
On the season, Melius has an 8-1 record and a 5.77 ERA. In 73 1/3 innings of work, opponents are hitting only .269 against the senior right-hander. This is the first time Melius has been named the league pitcher of the week.
Melius is the first Tulane pitcher to be named C-USA Pitcher of the Week this season.
The Green Wave continues to gain ground in the national polls. This week, Tulane is No. 6 in the Baseball America Top-25 Poll and No. 10 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The No. 6 ranking is the highest the team has seen under Head Coach Rick Jones.
Tulane hosts Nicholls State on Wednesday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. This is a
make up game for the March 14th rain out.
