IRVING, Texas - After pitching his first-career complete-game shutout on Sunday against Southern Miss, redshirt senior Tyler Mapes was honored by Conference USA for his efforts, as the league announced the Plano, Texas native as the Co-Pitcher of the Week.

In 9.0 innings of work, Mapes allowed six hits while walking two and striking out five. The win against Southern Miss gave the Green Wave their first series-closing win since the opening weekend of the season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The outing was Mapes' second complete game of the season.

"It was good knowing that Tyler Mapes was on the mound for us in such a big situation on Sunday," stated Tulane baseball interim head coach Jake Gautreau. "He responded with his best performance in a Tulane uniform. He was able to set the tone early and allow the offense to relax a little bit to provide him with run support."

The honor is the first of Mapes' career. The league has now honored two Tulane players with their weekly awards this season, as junior Garrett Deschamp was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week after the Louisiana Tech series during the second weekend of the season.

Tulane picked up just their second Conference USA series victory on the season, as they last took two games in a series in their mid-March defeat of Middle Tennessee.

On the year, Mapes is now 5-4 with a 2.53 ERA in 11 starts, totaling 67.2 innings. He has allowed just 69 hits, while striking out 49 and walking just 11.

Mapes shared the honor with East Carolina's Reid Love, who also fired a complete-game shutout against North Carolina this past Tuesday.

The Green Wave will return to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Tuesday night as they welcome Southeastern Louisiana for a 6:30pm CT first pitch. It will mark the third game in the series between the two teams this season. The game will be broadcast on 88.3 FM WRBH, the home of Tulane baseball for the 2014 season, and live stats can be followed on TulaneGreenWave.com's baseball schedule page.
