Senior shortstop Andy Cannizaro hit .615 on the week and earned Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors the league office announced Monday.

This is the first time Cannizaro has been named the conference hitter of the week in his four seasons at Tulane.

Cannizaro recorded eight hits in 13 at bats, with two doubles and sent in four RBI, leading Tulane to a 3-1 week. He posted an on base percentage .647 and was 3-for-4 in stolen bases. He played flawless defense at shortstop.

Against Houston on Saturday, Cannizaro was 3-for-5 and tied a season high three RBI.

The Tulane (31-8, 10-5 C-USA) baseball team improved its ranking in two national polls, after a 3-1 week, which included a 7-6 win over No. 2 LSU. Up next for the Wave is a Tuesday evening match up with UNO. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 at Zephyr Field. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. Tulane returns to Conference USA action on Friday, April 20 as the Green Wave plays a three-game series with Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss.
