Tulane (5-3) scored a season-high 10 runs to beat Nicholls State (5-8) in Wednesday evening's season home opener at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave picked up five of the 10 runs scored in a fourth inning rally.
Pitcher Henry Bonilla (2-0) recorded his second win of the year. He pitched six innings and struck out six batters. Bonilla's ERA to date is a 4.95.
The Green Wave jumped on the board immediately scoring two runs in the first inning. In the fourth inning Tulane had five hits and five runs including an RBI double by James Jurries, and singles by Andy Cannizaro, Chad Sutter and Jake Burnham.
Jurries double in the fourth inning was his second of the season. He went 3-for-5, with two RBI and two runs, raising his season average to .394. Burnham also went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Burnham and Jurries lead the Wave with seven RBI each.
The losing pitcher for Nicholls State was Malcom Orgernon (2-2).
Tulane hosts Manhattan College this weekend at Turchin Stadium. The series begins on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
