NEW ORLEANS - Tulane baseball will play their first mid-week contest of the season on Tuesday as they head down to Thibodaux to face in-state rival Nicholls State at Ray E. Didier Field for a 6:00pm CT first pitch.

Live stats can be followed on the schedule page at TulaneGreenWave.com. The live broadcast of the game can be heard on the home of Tulane baseball for the 2014 season, 88.3 FM WRBH. The broadcast will also be streamed through the All-Access link at TulaneGreenWave.com to paid members of the All-Access pass.

Tulane is off to a hot start this season, as they will travel to Thibodaux with a 6-1 overall record. This past weekend, the Green Wave were in Ruston, La., where they took two out of three games against new Conference USA opponent Louisiana Tech. In Ruston, the Green Wave won game one by a score of 12-8, followed by an offensive explosion on Saturday in which Tulane won 16-3. Tulane collected 13 hits on Friday while recording 19 the next day.

Tulane suffered their first loss on Sunday at the hands of LA Tech, falling 5-2. Before Sunday's loss, the Green Wave had scored double-digit runs in three straight contests for the first time since the middle of the 2008 season.

As a team, Tulane is hitting .301, which ranks second in the league. The Green Wave has posted 21 extra base hits so far this season, including one triple and four home runs. Senior Andrew Garner blasted two shots in Ruston this past weekend, as did freshman Hunter Hope and junior Garrett Deschamp, who was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Monday.

Individually, Garner leads the team with a batting average of .444, while Deschamp (.400), sophomore Richard Carthon (.348), senior Bowen Woodson (.348) and Hope (.333) all batting well over .300. Carthon has scored a team-high 12 runs, while Deschamp has posted a team-best 14 RBI. Hope, Deschamp and Carthon are tied for first on the team with 10 hits each.

Deschamp hit .500 over the weekend with one double, one home run and nine RBI against the Bulldogs of LA Tech.

Nicholls State sits at 3-4 on the year and are also coming off a loss. On Saturday, the Colonels dropped a close one to Southern Illinois, 8-7. They won three-straight prior to that after getting swept by Houston during the opening weekend of the season.

At the plate, the Colonels are hitting just .200 as a team, and only Leo Vargas (.348) and Philip Lyons (.346) are hitting over .300 in an everyday role. Where Nicholls State is strong I - and aggressive - is on the basepaths. The Colonels have swiped 17 bags so far this year in just 20 attempts.

On the mound for the Green Wave on Tuesday will be redshirt senior righty Tyler Mapes. The Plano, Texas, native picked up a win on Feb. 16 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in his lone appearance of the season. In that contest, Mapes pitched 4.0 innings, allowing six hits and just one earned run while striking out two.

Nicholls State will start lefty junior Mike Hanchar. The transfer from Iowa Western CC has made one start so far this year, pitching 5.0 innings and striking out five. This season, the Green Wave have fared well against southpaws, as Tulane is hitting .415 against lefties (17-for-41).

Nicholls State is coached by Seth Thibodeaux. Tulane head coach Rick Jones picked up his 810th win as the skipper of the Green Wave this past Saturday. Jones is just 16 victories short of 1,000 career Division I wins. Overall, Jones is 1086-523-3, but his 102 wins during his coaching tenure at Ferrum (1982-84) came when the school was still a junior college.

Following Tuesday's contest, the Green Wave will return home to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium for a three-game series against Sacred Heart.
