IRVING, Texas - Just two weekends into his career with the Tulane baseball program, junior infielder Garrett Deschamp is already receiving accolades for his work, as he was announced as the Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Monday by the league offices.

Deschamp helped Tulane go 2-1 in its Conference USA opening weekend at Louisiana Tech, posting a .500 batting average (6-for-12). He knocked home a team-high nine RBI in the series, including a career-high six RBI on Feb. 22. The six RBI are the most by a Green Wave player this season and the most since Andrew Garner had seven on May 12 last year when he hit for the cycle. Deschamp scored four runs in the series, while blasting his first career Division I home run on Feb. 21, immediately following Garner's two-run blast in the contest.

The duo became the first back-to-back home run hitters for Tulane since Garrett Cannizaro and Quinn Pippin went yard in consecutive at-bats in the seventh inning of a 13-5 victory over Memphis at FedEx Park on April 23, 2010.

Deschamp also notched a sacrifice fly on Feb. 22. He went 2-for-3 with two runs, one home run and two walks as the clean-up hitter on Feb. 21 and followed that up with a 4-for-5 performance with two runs, a double, a sacrifice fly and six RBI on Feb. 22.

The middle infielder , who started all three games at second base while also playing an inning at shortstop on Saturday, played flawless defense in the three-game series, totaling nine assists and 10 putouts.

Deschamp became the first Conference USA Hitter of the Week for Tulane since Garner earned the honors after hitting for the cycle at UCF last May.

Tulane will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Thibodaux, La., for a contest against in-state rival Nicholls State. The game will be broadcast on 88.3 FM WRBH, the home of Tulane baseball for the 2014 season.
