Tulane Falls to Southerm Miss

NEW ORLEANS, La.- Despite two home runs Tulane (3-3) dropped Saturday's Winn-Dixie Showdown game to Southern Miss (4-1) 13-6.

Freshman 3B Jake Gautreau recorded his third home run of the season wit ha third inning solo shot down the left field line. The Green Wave led the Golden Eagles 3-1 until the fifth inning when Michael Artman hit a two-run homer into the left field seats.

In the eigth inning, sophomore 3B Steve Shirley hit his first homer of the season collecting two RBI as he hit one into left field. Southern Miss sealed the game by scoring 10 runs in the last three innings.

Junior LHP Jared Berkowitz picked up his second loss of the season while USM's Charlie Rogers chalked his second win.

Tulane will play Southwestern Louisiana on Sunday at 6 p.m., and Southern Miss will play New Orleans at 3 p.m. in the last day of play in the 1999 Showdown.
