NEW ORLEANS - Redshirt sophomore Tony Rizzotti was named the Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week today after throwing a complete game, one-hit shutout in Tulane's season opening win against Sam Houston State last Friday, announced the league offices.

Rizzotti shares the weekly honor with Rice's Austin Kubitza, who struck out 12 Stanford batters in six innings during Rice's season opener.

"Rizzotti's performance on Friday night was worthy of this recognition," said Tulane baseball head coach Rick Jones.

After having not pitched competitively in almost two years due to knee injuries, Rizzotti - who transferred from Grayson College by way of TCU - struck out five and walked one while earning the win for the Green Wave.

It was the first time Tulane notched a complete-game shutout since Conrad Flynn did so against Northern Colorado on March 20, 2009. The nine innings thrown against Sam Houston State were almost more than twice as many innings he pitched during his one season at TCU in 2011 (4.2). In 2011, Rizzotti made six appearances out of the bullpen for TCU as a true freshman.

Tulane will host their first home game at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Tuesday against Southeastern Louisiana. The Greenies will send junior Tyler Mapes to the mound, after he pitched a third of an inning in relief on Saturday, being credited with the loss. Southeastern Louisiana will rely on lefty Kyle Cedotal to get the job done from the mound. Cedotal was credited with the win during Southeastern's 5-3 victory over UT-Martin on Feb. 16. In that game, Cedotal threw two innings in relief, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out two.

The game will begin at 6:30pm CST. The Green Wave hold a commanding lead in the all-time series against the Lions, going 71-29. The two squads faced each other three times in 2012, with Tulane winning each contest.
