NEW ORLEANS -With the 2014 campaign just around the corner, the Tulane baseball squad will prepare for their 55-game season slate by holding their first spring practice on Fri., Jan. 24, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Green Wave will hold practices every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday prior to the season opener on Feb. 14, while also holding intrasquads from Friday through Sunday.

"We've been looking at this date over the holidays, and we have been planning and anticipating it, and now it is upon us," said Tulane head baseball coach Rick Jones. "We can't wait to get started, especially with as many new players as we have. One of the encouraging things is how well we did in the classroom this past fall. I think there is a definite correlation with that and the on-field production. Everyone has come back in good shape, and they are all ready to go."

Tulane will look to return to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since the 2008 season, and they will do so with a relatively new cast of players. The Green Wave will welcome 19 newcomers to the squad, including four transfers. The recruiting class was ranked in the top-25 by both Perfect Game and Baseball America.

In addition to the new faces that will wear the Tulane uniform this spring, Tulane returns a few key cogs to the team from seasons past. Senior outfielder Andrew Garner and sophomore outfielder Richard Carthon - a 2013 Conference USA All-Freshman Team member - will lead the charge of returning fielders, along with senior infielders Bowen Woodson, Briggs Barrios and Nick DiMaggio and sophomore infielder Tim Yandel.

Tulane has a slew of experience on the mound, including redshirt junior Randy LeBlanc, redshirt sophomore Alex Massey, redshirt senior Tyler Mapes, senior Brady Wilson and redshirt senior Kyle McKenzie. Sophomores Dan Rankin, Emerson Gibbs and 2013 Freshman All-American Ian Gibautwill provide depth in the backend of the bullpen.

One week prior to the season, the Green Wave will host an alumni weekend for all those who have worn the Olive and Blue on the diamond. On Saturday, Feb. 8, there will be two alumni games open to the public at Greer Field at Tulane Stadium. At 11:30am CT, players who played for the Green Wave prior to the 1994 season will split up and play a contest against one another. Following that game at 2pm CST, the current roster of Green Wave players will play a roster comprised of players that have played under Jones since 1994.

The following weekend will be the season opener at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Tulane will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:30pm CT on Feb. 14. Tulane will play a doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sat., Feb. 15, beginning at 2pm CT. The opening series will close on Sun., Feb. 16 against the Golden Lions at 1pm CT.
