TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
"We just got behind too many too early. That is uncharacteristic of us. [Starting pitcher Brian] Bogusevic did not have his best stuff. Everything that Rice hit had eyes; they hit some balls good, but the balls that they didn't had eyes, and that's going to happen sometimes and they took advantage. I thought in the first four innings, they played great and we didn't play well. When that happens, the score is going to be what it was. The thing that I would say is that you saw our club come back. We brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh. I feel real confident in our club still and I know we'll be ready to play tomorrow."
[on struggling early]
"You never know how the game is going to go; that's why you play them. It is not characteristic of our club and we played a great Rice club. The better the competition, the better you're going to have to play. It seemed like everything we did was wrong; you have that happen a couple or three times a year even with a real good club. It just so happened to happen today."
[on getting into Rice's bullpen]
"On the bright side for us, we did get into their bullpen. We forced them to go to the guy at the end [Bobby Bell] that they certainly wouldn't have if the score had not been that way. That might be something we can look back on."
[on losing game one]
"That's why you play two-out-of-three. There's no guarantees. Again, tomorrow we'll see what happens.
TULANE STARTING PITCHER Brian Bogusevic
"They swung the bat and put the bat on the ball and found holes. It was very frustrating."
TULANE CENTER FIELDER Nathan Southard
TULANE FIRST BASEMAN Micah Owings
"We just have to flush today. It's baseball; that's why you play two-of-three. We did not play our game today. It's frustrating, but we just have to get ready for tomorrow."
RICE HEAD COACH WAYNE GRAHAM
"Nothing is easy when you play a team that can swing the bat as well as they can. We feel fortunate to win, obviously, I thought our guys came out very aggressive with the bat and Greer held us in the game. Bobby Bell did the same thing he did last week in Baton Rouge, he came in and gave us a clutch performance."
[on Tulane's starting pitcher]
"He's throwing hard, we told our kids to be ready, a lot of his pitches are relatively the same speed. He covers the ball real well and it jumps on you if you're not ready, you're not going to hit."
RICE STARTING PITCHER JOSH GEER
"The wind blowing in really helped us. I couldn't keep the ball down in the beginning. Our offense helped out a lot, they scored three in the first and three in the second. It gave me a lot of confidence knowing we had a lead."
RICE CENTER FIELDER TYLER HENLEY
[on facing Bogusevic]
"We know how good he was coming in being the 24th player picked. I don't think we were intimidated by him today, we just went in and played. "
[on being the underdog in the Super Regional]
"Being the underdog here isn't going to change the way we play, we are going to go out and play our game plan."
RICE SHORTSTOP JOSH RODRIGUEZ
[On Rice's Game Plan]
"We knew we had to jump out early and we didn't want to let them stay in the game and that was our plan. They are good hitters and they can get right back into a game at anytime like they did today."
