Tulane 7, Florida 4 With the win, Tulane improves to 2-5 all-time vs. Florida. The Green Wave's lone win in the series prior to the 2008 NCAA Tallahassee Regional came on Feb. 20, 1987 when Tulane defeated the Gators, 11-10, in the inaugural Busch Challenge in the Louisiana Superdome. The win marks the Green Wave's first postseason victory over Florida, evening the record at 1-1. The only other time Tulane played Florida in the NCAA Regionals came in 1988 when the Gators defeated the Green Wave 8-6 in day two of the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. Tulane's six-run seventh was the seventh six-plus run inning of the 2008. The Green Wave plated a season-high nine runs in the sixth against Oakland on March 15, had seven in the eighth against Oakland a day later and had four six-run innings (third vs. Northwestern State on March 12, fourth vs. Nicholls State on April 8, first at Memphis on April 25, sixth at Memphis on April 26) before today's outburst. Entering today's ballgame, sophomore shortstop Josh Prince had just three multiple-hit ballgames. By going 3-for-4 against the Gators, Prince ties his season hit set originally at East Carolina on May 10. Tulane left fielder Scott Powell drew his first start this season in left and his first overall since lining up in center for April 9's 8-4 win at the University of New Orleans. He had just 13 at-bats since that game against the Privateers. The move paid dividends has Powell went 3-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt and a run scored. With the win, Tulane now has at least one victory in NCAA Regional play in its last 13 trips to the postseason. The last time the Green Wave played in a Regional and failed to win a game was in the 1987 South II Regional at the University of New Orleans when Tulane dropped a 5-3 decision to LSU and lost 4-0 to Cal State Fullerton. Friday's 7-4 win over Florida improves Tulane's all-time NCAA Regional record to 28-29, including a 21-16 mark under head coach Rick Jones. The Green Wave are now 10-9 in NCAA Regional opening-round games dating back to Tulane's first postseason berth in 1979. With a pair of hits, junior shortstop Seth Henry improved his hitting streak to seven in a row. Other Tulane student-athletes adding to their hit streaks are Jared Dyer (six), Drew Allain (five), Josh Prince (three), Anthony Scelfo (three) and Aja Barto (two). With 2.2 shutout innings of relief, freshman Nick Pepitone becomes the first Tulane rookie to earn a victory in NCAA Regional play since 2001 when Joey Charron got the win in all three games of the NCAA New Orleans Regional at the old Turchin Stadium By retiring the only two batters he faced in Friday's Regional win over Florida, freshman Rob Segedin earned his fifth save of the 2008 season. That is the most saves by a Green Wave rookie since Sean Morgan had five in 2005. When Tulane took the field to start Friday's game against Florida, only one player in the lineup - junior second baseman Seth Henry - had ever experienced NCAA postseason play. Of the other eight position players and the designated hitter, just two were on the team the last time Tulane played in the NCAA Regionals (Scott Powell and Anthony Scelfo - neither of which played in the 2006 NCAA Oxford Regional).
