Recap |  Box Score

Head Coach R. Jones

Opening Statement
"Obviously, Alex Byo was outstanding. after the first three hitters, he settled in and made some really good pitches and got a lot of quick outs. I think three innings he got the first pitch out in three innings and had a chance for the first time this season to get a complete game because his pitch count was so low and his stuff was so good. But, when you give up a leadoff single with two strikes, and you have D.J. Ponder in the bullpen, that's a comforting thing. The other thing is, I don't know how we can play much better defense than we did tonight. There were some stellar plays. Garrett Cannizaro, coming back off the injury, was so good at third and had a big hit. Bowden Woodson was fabulous. Nick Schneeberger in right field; that was a tremendous throw. You know, good pitching, good defense and we had some timely hits."

On bringing Cannizaro and Boudreaux back into the lineup
"You see how much both those guys mean to our lineup, both offensively and defensively. I'm telling you - it was right up until game time before we decided if they can play. But, they get a day off tomorrow so they can rest and catch their breath and start again on Friday morning."

On responding to ECU scoring a tying run
"I thought we had some good quality at-bats there early and had a chance. Bowen's ball was really swung well there and we had a chance to stretch the lead even more in the sixth or seventh, but at the end of the day, when they came out and got the first three guys get hits and we minimized it to one run and then come back to take the lead, I thought that was a little bit of a momentum boost. But, we still had to pitch and play defense all night."

Junior Third Baseman G. Cannizaro

On returning from the injury
"I think we played about as complete a game as we can play. Alex threw a tremendous game. We hit, we got timely hits and most importantly played great defense. Whenever we put those three phases together, we're a pretty tough team to beat. This was a huge win for us tonight. We know where we stand and we know what we have to do."

On improving the team's resume for the NCAA tournament
"Like I said, we know where we stand. We came here to do business. Tonight was a huge win for us, probably the biggest win for us since I've been here in my three years. It's huge. We know our RPI, we know their RPI and we know what we have to do to get into the NCAA tournament."

Junior Pitcher A. Byo

On what was working tonight
"Tonight, different from last week, I had all three pitches working and was able to get in on some guys. When you have command of all three pitches, it's fun out there."

On the play of his defense
"(I got a lot of help). Garrett is an unbelievable third baseman. Bowen's catch over the shoulder there at second was big. That's been key for us all year. We have great defense."
