Head Coach R. Jones

Opening Statement

"(Alex) Byo pitched really well tonight. We didn't swing the bats that well, but that's because both their starter and their reliever did a good job of pitching down in the zone and mixing their fastball and breaking ball well. They kept it down (in the zone) on us tonight and obviously we have a couple bats out of the lineup. We won the ball game because Alex (Byo) pitched well, especially in the middle innings, and we played very well defensively tonight. Brennan Middleton had a great game in the leadoff spot. (Brennan) played well tonight, he played really well."

On B. Middleton
"Brennan swung it well in the leadoff spot this past weekend in Houston when we put him there (in the leadoff spot). Obviously he's a base stealing threat. If he gets on he can put some pressure on the defense."

On the low scoring game
"If you look at Marshall's scores, they haven't given up a lot of runs and they've been in a lot of low scoring games. Tonight wasn't anything different than what I thought it would be, to be honest with you. We're seeing a really good lefty tomorrow, but we have to fight to win this series because if we win the series we lock in third place (in Conference UAS) with Southern Miss just getting beat. It's just fighting and fighting. We're going to see (Marshall's) best arm tomorrow, and we're going to have to play well. We have two pretty good players out of our lineup right now, so someone's going to have to pick up the slack somehow. Again, I go back to what I said earlier, I thought their starter and relievers did a really good job."
