Charlotte falls to Memphis, 4-2, in their second round Conference USA Tournament game. Charlotte will face Tulane, Friday, May 18 in an elimination game.

"You have to give Memphis credit for their play," Charlotte coach Loren Hibbs said. "I figured we would play Tulane but I was hoping it would be on Saturday. Hopefully our number four hitter Brad Erwin and our number five hitter Thomas Bowker will be in the lineup since they missed tonight's game with an illness."

Charlotte tied the game at 1-1 with a run on two hits in the sixth inning. Brian Bowman scored the run on a Brad Lamm fielder's choice.

Memphis regained the lead for good at 4-1 with three runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Barrett Smith scored the first run of the inning on Jay Fik's single to rightfield. Then, Paul Reuer connected on a single to rightfield that scored Tyler Shelton and Fik with the inning's other two runs.

Charlotte cut the Memphis lead to 4-2 with a run on one hit in the seventh inning. Nick Blackmon, who leadoff the inning with a triple to left centerfield, scored on Victor Puentes' sacrifice fly to centerfield.
